Eddie “Sidney” Cherry, 72, of Carthage, MS passed away surrounded by family at Baptist Medical Center-Attala on Friday, August 27, 2021 after battling pneumonia caused by COVID-19. Visitation will be held at Wilcox Funeral Home in Carthage, MS on Friday, September 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Attala Memory Gardens (4900 Attala County Rd 1010, Kosciusko, MS 39090) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Wilcox Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Sidney was born on March 7, 1949 in the Craig Springs community of Oktibbeha County, MS. After graduating from Sturgis High School in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began a long career as a cross-country truck driver. Sidney had an infectious sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. An avid deer hunter and gun collector, he was a member of the NRA and the Shiny Hound and Mine and Yours hunting clubs. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Sidney is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Cherry, and his granddaughter, Jacee Faith Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Malinda Cockroft Cherry; son Jason Bush (Courtney) of Vicksburg; son Jeremy Thomas (Jaklyn), of Carthage; daughter Jessica Cherry Bright (Phil) of Hattiesburg; and son Drew Cherry (Kristy) of Carthage; his mother Maxine Clardy, and siblings Wade Cherry, Glen Cherry (Hope), Toby Cherry, and Sissy Cherry, all of Starkville. Grandchildren are: Lanton, Garrett, Jay, Zoey, Jeralyn, Colton, Ashton, Xannon, Gavin, Zanna, and Henry.
