Mrs Fredonia "Donie" Townsend

August 26, 1941 - May 19, 2020

Eulogy Fredonia Strong Townsend ( "Donie" was what everyone knew her by) Donie returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Donie was born on August 26, 1941 to Thomas C. Strong and Lottie Britt Strong . Welcome by brothers Maurice, Houston ,Virgil, Ruben and one sister Ruth. They grew up knowing what hard work was . Thomas was a truck farmer , he tilled his land in a place named Dentville, they planted any crop that would grow, they watched over it and gave the land what it needed then harvested and loaded in the back of his truck for market. They also ran a dairy farm . That was Lottie's pride and joy ! It was one of the first to have cement floors. For fun they would picnic's and cool off in the creek behind the farm . On Sunday everyone loaded up and spent the day at "The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. " in Red Star, Ms . The church and cemetery was built on land donated by family. After graduation from Crystal Spring High School, Donie packed her clothes and moved to Jackson . She lived in a hotel for women and made many life long friends . She would work in the day and go to school at night . One week-end a month she would take the long bus ride home to visit her family. Friends introduced her to a milk man from Lena, Ms . After a long courtship, Wayne and Donie were joined in marriage by Harlan Boone in a simple ceremony. They made a good life together ... they were both avid supporters of Ms State and followed them in all sports with season tickets. While Wayne enjoyed golf, Donie bowled in many Leagues. Winning tournaments on the Gulf Coast, to Miami then on to Denver in the 70's. She was avid collector of all Elvis' albums. And she still enjoyed his music while in the nursing home . Elvis' gospel music was her favorite at that time ... Wayne and Donie were not blessed with children but many nieces and nephews were very blessed by having them in their lives . Most are Ms State fans ....all loved Borden's ice cream ...and some inherited Donie's love for flowers and humming birds. Donie was an accountant for a School Supply Company, a Paint Company and McRae's when they lived in Jackson. She worked for Schwinn Bike when she lived in Greenville until it was time for her to care for mother. They finally moved back to Lena , Ms. to enjoy retirement. Donie was a true woman of love and service ... she cared for her parents ... her brothers and sister ... she was there for her brother in laws and sisters in laws.. and neighbors and she loved all animals adopting many strays. There was even an agreement in the sell of Wayne And Donie's home in Lena , that who ever bought the home had to adopt "Phoo " and love him !
