Mr Ray McGee

RAY MCGEE Ray McGee, age 93, died at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS, on October 22, 2020. Born in Leake County, MS, Ray was reared in the Marydale community and graduated from Zama High School in Attala County. He graduated from East Central Community College and earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and advanced degrees from Mississippi State University. Ray began his 45-year career in education at Zama High School. He moved to the Leake County School System where he was principal at Singleton and Barnes. McGee then joined Carthage Schools and after teaching one year, he became principal of Carthage Elementary School, a position that he held for 33 years. Ray was a member of Carthage First Baptist Church for 57 years and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Mississippi Association of Educators and the Lion’s Club. Ray enjoyed hunting and gardening. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Kitchens McGee of Carthage; his son-in-law, Frederick Rosser of Vicksburg, MS; his parents, Alton and Iva Ray McGee of Leake County; and his sister, Joyce McGee Bennett, also of Leake County. Survivors include a daughter, Sheila McGee Rosser of Vicksburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Wilcox Funeral Home, 106 South Jordan ST, Carthage, MS. Services will follow in the Wilcox Chapel. Interment will be at Carthage Memorial Gardens, Pearl ST, Carthage, MS. Pallbearers are Oliver McQueen, Bill Dickens, David Barham, Raymond, Tripplett, Fred Nazary, and Glenn Crawford.
